ANTIQUE 1870'S MANTELET CAPE WITH MATCHING BASQUE BODICE LACE TASSELS NEW YORK

Description

Here for your consideration is this amazing 1870's mantelet/cape with matching Basque/bodice.  The cape is caramel in color and in embellished with blue, green, orange, and brown trim and black tassels.  It is trimmed in lace and tassels around the arm areas, and across the back.  There is lace at the end of the laplets.  The lace is in very delicate condition and is shredding in areas.  The inside of the mantelet is lined in burgundy satin.  The lace on one laplet is held on with pins and also 1 arm stay is pinned.   Cape closes in front with the original hooks and eyes.  Aside from the lace, the cape is in excellent wearable condition.
Along with the mantelet is a matching basque/bodice.  The bodice is embellished with the same trim and tassels as the cape.  The trim on 1 side of the bodice has been cut and the lace placed over the area to cover the missing trim.  The buttons are missing from the bodice.  Some tassels are missing and the lace is in delicate condition..  Back of the bodice has trim, fancy stitching. and tassels.  Tails of the bodice have weights  and accommodate a bustle.  Stitching is combination of machine and hand done.  Bodice is boned and has a label A. Van Dusen, No 62 West 46th Street, New York.  Material of the bodice is strong and in excellent wearable condition This set is a wonderful addition to any collection!!
